Our next National Double-Goal Coach Award presented by TeamSnap winner is Chris Goebel, who coaches cross country for Mora Public Schools-Official in Minnesota. “Chris helps his athletes win on and off the course,” said Amy Sinclair, Executive Director of Positive Coaching Alliance – Minnesota, the local Chapter of Positive Coaching Alliance. “By creating a positive, character-building youth sports experience and serving as a Double-Goal Coach, Chris helps youth develop into better athletes and better people.” Goebel’s teams, averaging about 60-80 athletes per season, have claimed the last three boys’ Class A state championships, he said, “But what really drives me is that I love to see kids work hard and reach goals. That’s my priority. We try really hard to celebrate little successes. “So many people in society think kids don’t want to work hard today. You come and spend time around our team and our program, and I just don’t buy it. These kids want to work hard. They want to be pushed. I talk to them about motivating themselves on a daily basis and always wanting to do their best. Whether we’re talking about practice or school, we talk a lot about trying to be the best that you can be.” Goebel’s approach demonstrates the role sports can play in the development of youth, Sinclair said. “Our Chapter’s employees, board and supporters are thrilled that Coach Goebel is getting national recognition for his work at Mora High School. Having an award-winning Double-Goal Coach in the community provides an example for other coaches to emulate, so thousands more youth and high school athletes in Minnesota can benefit from a positive, character-building sports experience.” Congratulations, Coach Goebel!
