Amazing day celebrating the work of Melodie Robinson, @skysports presenter, Rugby champion, and #GSMP alumna class of 2016! The morning was spent with Young Leaders of the Pacific and other #Maori youth at a beautiful community center, or marae, that included an official powhiri or welcome and the traditional Hongi “nose kiss” 😍😍😍 As a Maori woman, Mel inspired the crowd to see sport journalism as a viable career path for Maori & indigenous youth. We followed the session with an afternoon workshop with the “W” group, an association of women in sports media pushing for gender equality in the newsroom. The session included drawings of the “ideal NZ woman”, as proposed by societal expectations and concluded with empowering action plan statements for 2018!
