THIS.

This is the ripple effect of our work with the U.S. Department of State Global Sports Mentoring Program. Leaders in sport from around the world—many who are already well-established in their own right—(1) attend and participate in the #GSMP, (2) are mentored from leading women at U.S. businesses and corporations, and (3) return to their home countries to implement their big idea for change that improves social conditions for women and girls and persons with disabilities.

Here, Lizzie Namoya—a delegate from the 2014 class—writes about the ways women with disabilities are excluded from society and then develops a photo series that re-defines womanhood in unique and profound ways.

Lizzie—We love you, your work, and your passion!! Keep it up!!

Check out this outstanding piece on the representation of women with disabilities by #GSMP alumna, Lizzie Namoya (GSMP, 2014), founder of This-Ability, an organization that works to advance disability rights and the inclusion of women and girls with disabilities in Kenya.

“Value is placed on bodies that most satisfy the socially constructed aesthetic, and because disabled bodies are culturally considered an aberration, they fall short and are therefore dismissed.”

“The issues unique to women with disabilities often fall through the cracks of mainstream women’s rights organizations, due to lack of inclusion and representation.”

We are proud of your passion and commitment to these important issues, Lizzie!!
