In 2009, we were honored to recognize @kofiannan with our Humanitarian in Sport Award for his advocacy to urge the international community to increase efforts to use sport as a tool to fight poverty, heal divisions and to protect the planet. The Nobel Peace Prize laureate was appointed the first Special Adviser on Sport, Development and Peace and also convened the inaugural UN Inter-Agency Task Force on the subject. The world has lost a great humanitarian and an ambassador for sport. Our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
