On December 11, 2018, the UN Climate Change programme announced the Sport for Climate Action Initiative to serve as a shared framework for sport organizations in addressing climate change according to the target of the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to below 2C above pre-industrial levels.
These principles have already been demonstrated by the 101 sporting events and organizations that have earned formal certification from the Council for Responsible Sport in recognition of their meaningful and transformative climate action leadership.
