IDSDP 2019: TackleAfrica

From Hoima, Uganda

The video was taken in Hoima, Uganda with football coaches and HONECRIC (partner organisation) staff members from TackleAfrica’s sexual health through football coaching project, funded by BT Supporters Club/ Comic Relief.

TackleAfrica uses football to drive social change: through our work, young people gain the information they need to take control of their sexual health. Therefore, IDSDP is a day to celebrate the work that we do with our partners, as well as the work of so many other organisations around the world, in order to raise awareness of the power of sport for development.

Sport can contribute to many of the SDGs, in particular GOAL 3: Good Health and Well-being and GOAL 5: Gender Equality. TackleAfrica places an emphasis on working with female players and coaches, as this is proven to improve their confidence, self-esteem and perceptions that they can achieve the same as their male counterparts. In 2017/18, 54% of the players reached were female.
