IDSDP 2019: United States Sports Academy

The United States Sports Academy share the message in English, French, Finnish, Armenian, and Spanish from Daphne, AL, USA:

What does 6 April mean to you/your organisation?

The United States Sports Academy, located in Daphne, Alabama, USA, took part in the International Day of Sport for Peace and Development by representing the languages spoken by our talented faculty and staff, and the languages of countries our institution has partnered with during our history. Languages spoken here on campus include Arabic, Armenian, Finnish, French, and Spanish. Other languages represented include Malay, Thai, and even binary code (repped by our talented IT department).

The United States Sports Academy is an independent, non-profit, accredited, special mission sports university created to serve the nation and the world with programmes in instruction, research and service. The role of the Academy is to prepare men and women for careers in the profession of sports.

The vision of USSA is to be the leading sports education institution preparing students from all backgrounds to careers in sports industry and providing quality sports education worldwide. We aim to advocate for better training for coaches, trainers, and sports managers in all sports. We also aim to become the leading institution in the world to connect sports and arts.

The vision of the Academy’s leadership during its conception was to make a “university without walls”. Since opening, the Academy has led programmes in over 65 countries worldwide.

We support the message of sport being a universal language, and believe it is the great equaliser no matter what language you speak.

How can sport contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?

Sport provides purpose, instils important values, and brings people together. Creating a sense of community through sport makes everyone more invested in sustaining that community over time.
