Against a backdrop of political turmoil, five determined football coaches in Ecuador walked for more than 16 hours to take part in a training workshop.

Amid ongoing unrest on the streets of Quito last week, our joint Trainer-of-Trainer workshops with local organisation @fudela_ecuador, supported by the @auswaertigesamt and the German Embassy, was at risk of cancellation due to safety concerns.

However, as is said in football, ‘it’s not over until it’s over’. Despite protests and street blockades with a change of location, some schedule changes and a lot of grit and determination, the workshops were able to get underway.

Of the 100 aspiring coaches due to attend, more than 60 were able to make the journey to North of Quito – with coaches coming from Quito, Guayaquil, and even as far as Peru.

Five of those miraculously made the trip on foot from Ibarra against the advice given by FUDELA. Despite such difficult conditions the group were totally engaged and even managed to fit in a full training session upon arrival.

An incredible effort from everyone involved.
