Travel Blog | Gideon Mensah visits Play Soccer Ghana

The life of a professional footballer can be relentless. Beneath stories of great rewards and huge sacrifices, lie human ones. @gideon.mensah15’s story is no different.

The @fcnordsjaelland player left Ghana for Denmark at the age of 18. Both distance and commitment mean opportunities to go home are few and far between.

When the chance does come, it’s one to be savoured.

En route home over the winter break, Gideon took a short detour to visit @play_soccer_international in Ghana.

As a @right2dream graduate, and supporter of @whizzkids_united through Common Goal, he’s fully immersed in the world of football4good.

Beyond his willingness to pass on words of advice, the Black Stars very own rising star was keen to experience first-hand the work changing so many lives through football.

Through his visit, he wanted those at Play Soccer Ghana to feel like he came to do more than just sit and talk – he wanted them to feel like he was actually there and, like them, someone obsessed by the game.

And what better way to do so than by playing football.

Not only did he immediately feel right at home, he left feeling the organisation was a part of him and with a promise to make it a tradition whenever he gets the chance to go home.
