For the past seven years communities in Venezuela have been struck by the economic depression affecting the nation.

Locked in economic and political deadlock, with no clear signs of reprieve, no one is suffering more than children – with malnutrition and infant mortality rates on the rise.

As the crisis deepens, @pasionpetare have created the Alimenta la Pasión (Feed the Passion) Project to combat the dramatic reduction in access to food.

Their pitch in Mescusa, Petare, is located in one of Latin America’s largest favelas, home to more than 800,000 people.

Noticing ‘fatigue, lack of energy, and malnutrition taking children from the pitch’, Pasion Petare initiated a youth municipal football league to guarantee at least one meal for players, every single day.

They now have six soup kitchens, in operation five days a week, feeding more than 1000 children every day – all run by a team of volunteers including numerous parents of players.

In just a few years they have served more than 10,000 meals.

An unbelievable team effort.
