To kickoff the 2018 GSMP: Sport for Community program, 17 international leaders in disability sport joined athletes from @spolympicsmd and students from @elizabethsetonhs for a day of inclusive basketball in Bladensburg, Maryland. In addition to playing and learning alongside athletes of different abilities, participants learned about grassroots program development, youth recruitment, and adaptive equipment. .
As part of the #GSMP, delegates craft strategic plans of action that use sport as a key platform to promote equality and inclusion in their home countries. Although it might seem impossible to change cultural expectations about what persons with disabilities can do, they are starting a new era where people of all abilities can be seen, heard, and included. .
